Suede ‘Filly’
A high quality fine napped calf suede from Italy, in a classic taupe. With a luxuriously soft nap, this suede will give your furniture the most beautifully soft, buttery feel. We love its matt appearance when fresh and new; but with time and use it will darken and enrich in colour, and build a wonderful unique patina.
This is a traditional bootmakers suede, and therefore a more unusual and interesting choice for upholstery than our traditional full grain leather. Whilst suede is clearly a very durable and hardwearing material, as an unprotected leather it is also quick to show up marks and stains and, as you’d expect, it is liable to shed colour. This makes it best suited to pieces of furniture (or specific areas on a piece) that will receive less wear such as benches and ottomans, or perhaps the base of a foot stool with the cushion in a more rugged material.
Do be aware that suede is an unprotected leather and therefore more susceptible to staining due to the brushed fibres. If a spill or spot should occur, blot immediately with a clean, absorbent dry cloth. Do not rub the spot with force or pressure. If the stain remains, use a minimally damp cloth to dab the spot then leave to dry naturally.
Panel Size Information
These cow hide leather pieces are cut from the butt of the hide as this section provides beautifully even-textured leather. When new, faint shave lines from the underside of the leather can sometimes be visible across the panels. With time and use these naturally fade away, and we often find that the handling of the leather by your upholsterer is enough for these lines to mellow and fade away.
Skin sizes vary widely within a batch. These measurements represent an average sized skin.

Please note that CFAs are not applicable for leather, because tone, colour and grain texture vary from batch to batch, skin to skin and even within a single skin. Similarly it is very hard to accurately capture these qualities in photos so we do not, as a rule, supply photos of leather selections.
